I work as a professor of structural engineering at TalTech university in Estonia. Previously I worked as a civil engineer at my own design office responsible for the design of timber buildings and bridges. In my PhD dissertation I studied the fire resistance of timber frame assemblies. The cooperation with Sweden led to further research at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden where I am working since 2010 as researcher in the field of fire resistance of timber structures. I have conducted more than 200 fire tests, results are used to verify and develop design models. The models are content of regular courses at Linneaus University and London City University. The models are further implemented in standards for engineers, I am member of the team drafting the next generation of the fire part of Eurocode 5, EN 1995-1-2.
